Honda EU1000i generator – comments?

Question:

Hi – I’ve been away from this group for a while, so forgive me if this has been asked already. (I did search Deja News first.) I just found info on this new generator and wonder if anyone has seen it in person or bought one. It looks like a little suitcase, weighs 29 lbs, rated output 900 watts, max 1000 watts. DC is rated at 8.3 amps, like the other Hondas. It has a very clean ac output and a load sensitive throttle that allows up to 8.7 hrs operation on .6 gallons of gas. Noise level is 52 to 57 db at 7 meters, depending on load. I saw an Internet price of $669.00 US for it. Any comments, good or bad? My intended use is battery charging and running lights while dry camping for short periods of time, four days or less at any one spot. Thanks in advance. John Davies

I looked at this generator for the same purpose.  I decided a solar panel and charge controller was a much better option, for less money.  I just finished the installation of the Siemens SP-65 and Prostar Controller with meters.  It should easily keep up with a couple of lights in the evenings, even on cloudy days.
